I admit if I have on addiction it would be to coffee. Here on campus there is a coffee machine in the student’s lounge, which is freely accessible by all. This is a dangerous proposition for me. Right now I am trying to limit myself at 6 cups a day, which is nothing compared to what I used to drink a few month back. The origin of coffee can be traced back to the 9th century when it was “discovered” in the highlands of Ethiopa. And the rest is history… Since then coffee has become a staple in our modern societies and has enjoyed a renaissance of sorts in the last decade. Like all stimulants, coffee is good but consumption has to be limited for side effects can develop with too high an intake. While coffee makes us feel good there are no documented health benefits to speak of but it has to be credited for giving us that morning boost I think ;). Anyway, these days I am trying to severely reduce the amount I drink. Like I said I am at present drinking 6 cups but I plan to reduce that further to 2-3 cups a day, a reasonable amount I think. By the way, the coffee isn’t even good in the lounge so it shouldn’t be difficult for me to reach my goal. At home I drink Community Dark, which is a decent roast that can be readily found. I am not a coffee snob by any means. If you are a coffee drinker, please share your favorite roast!
