One of my other hobbies is photography. I like to go out taking pictures of cityscapes and people (that can be tricky). I shoot with a Nikon D50 it’s an entry level DSLR, it’s a few years old now but it still serves me well. I try to go out every other weekend with friends. I am a member of the photo club at my university so there is no shortage of friends to go shoot out with. I must say that I often prepare to shoot alone as shooting in groups can be a bit distracting. I am getting more and more into people’s photography as I find it a challenge. When I was smaller I used to play a lot of ping pong, as a matter of fact I played competitively for a few years. But kids are fickle and change their minds and I eventually stopped to try soccer, judo, you name it. Anyway at the time unless I am going crazy, and correct me if I am wrong but a game of ping pong was the better of 2 sets with a set consisting of 21 points. I now live on a new campus residence where there is a ping pong table. So it brought me back years back and I started slowly but surely getting back into the game. Read the rest of this entry »

I have just finished reading the 4 hour work week by Thimothy Ferris. It’s a very popular book so there are good chances that you may have read it. It’s an entertaining read over which I have mixed feelings about. I think it is a great marketing product. I say marketing product because it feels more so than a book. What I mean is that there is little new in the book as the main ideas have been put forth before by various authors. It doesn’t mean that the book is bad or shouldn’t be read as overall I think most people would find it entertaining and of value to them. Read the rest of this entry »

I am getting more and more aggravated with my computer. I’ve had my Dell notebook for 4 years now and it is starting to show its age. It’s a great computer that’s served me well but lately it has started to act up, you know like giving me a few blue screens, freezing a couple of times, etc. I know a downer when I see one. So I will soon be on the market for a new computer. I want to get a desktop rather than a laptop this time. Ideally I would get both but this won’t be possible for the moment. Addicted to Coffee
Posted by yezdani in random | icon3No Comments »

I admit if I have on addiction it would be to coffee. Here on campus there is a coffee machine in the student’s lounge, which is freely accessible by all. This is a dangerous proposition for me. Right now I am trying to limit myself at 6 cups a day, which is nothing compared to what I used to drink a few month back. The origin of coffee can be traced back to the 9th century when it was “discovered” in the highlands of Ethiopa. And the rest is history… Read the rest of this entry »

Set Your Goal

I want to talk about a subject today that is close to my heart, goal setting. You see since little I never had a clear idea of what I wanted to do later on in life unlike my brothers who for some reasons knew from little what they wanted to become. No matter how hard I was thinking about what I like and don’t like I couldn’t formulate a specific activity that I feel would fulfill me. This lead me to coast through my teenage years and unto the beginning of my twenties. Read the rest of this entry »

What’s up with the subway company these days? It’s been the second strike in two months. As some of you may know I have had some troubles with my scooter lately and it is still in the garage being fixed. In the meantime I had to resort to taking the public transport to get to the campus. Based from my recent experience, I am glad I don’t have to take it regularly. Like I said it’s been the second strike in two months, for obscure reasons (something to do with unions and quotas). Everybody has a favourite dish and today I would like to share mine with you. My favourite dish is a dish that my mother makes to perfection, it’s a north African dish called couscous. You may or may not be familiar with it, if you don’t know it I urge you to try it. Be careful though as it is very easy to find a bad couscous, as a matter of fact I would say most restaurants do not know how to make a good couscous. Sorry, I don’t mean to discourage you, but just give you a heads up. Read the rest of this entry »

Scooter Issues
Posted by yezdani in daily life | icon3No Comments »

I use a little Yamaha scooter to zip around town and beat the rush hour traffic. It served me faithfully for several years now but this morning it decided to act up and leave me swearing on the side of the road. I don’t really know what the problem is yet. I was driving along when suddenly the engine started coughing, it was like the engine was spitting its guts. After about 20 seconds of this, the engine completely shut down, forcing me to a stop on the side of the road. Read the rest of this entry »

Something funny happened this Christmas that took me back to my younger days. I think we all have those kind of stories so let me share this one with you. My brother is really into his Nintendo Wii and especially into the game Guitar Hero. He already has the game but apparently theirs is this new extension that came out with all the bells and whistles: drums, microphone, second guitar (or is that a bass?), anyway, it has everything you need to play with your buddies and form a band.
